Proverbs Summary

Title: The title of this book comes from the fact it is an accumation of teachings and sayings designed to applying practical truth to aspects of our everyday life.
Author: The principal author of Proverbs is Solomon.  Other contributors are Agur, Hezekiah and King Lemuel.  Some scholars accept that Lemuel may be another name for Solomon.
Date: Since Solomon is the principal author of Proverbs, these teachings would have to have been written during his period as King of Israel / Judah about 971 to 931 BC.
Main Theme The theme of Proverbs is the need and desire to obtain knowledge and wisdom from God; the appropriate application of this wisdom in the daily life of the follower of Christ and assisting in relationships and remining obedient to our Lord and God.
Location: The proverbs of Solomon would have been written where the king presided in the city of Jerusalem.
History There is not a historical purpose for the writing of Proverbs.
