Title: Leviticus - has 2 meanings 1. Relating to the Levites.  2.  The Hebrew Bible title is 'wayyiqra' which means 'called by God'.

Main Theme Explanation of how to lead a life that provides a greater opportunity for a deeper relationship with God and with each other.  Leviticus calls us to be Holy.

History The Book of Leviticus provides instructions from God on how to have a deeper relationship with Him.  The first part of this book explains about each of the different types of offerings, their purpose and how they are to be conducted.     God also calls Arron and his sons to the priesthood.  The descendants of Levi are called to be priests, which means to minister to God.        God then discusses some activities / actions that can keep us from having the best relationshp with Him possible.                                                                                          After God gives instructions as to how atonement can be made for man's sins God calls us to be Holy.  "I am the Lord your God.  I am Holy therefore you need to be Holy."                                                                                                                                         The main function of this book is to provide man with the necessary instructions to lead a life that is Holy and pleasing to the Lord.
