Daniel - Summary

Title: This book is named for its author, the prophet Daniel.
Author: The author is the prophet Daniel, a young man who was taken into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.  Daniel was one of a group of young men who were to be trained in the ways of the people of Babylon.
Date: The date of the writing of this book would be approximately 535 BC.  The events recorded are from a time period ranging from 605 to 535BC, an 80 year period.
Main Theme The main theme of this book the fact that Daniel was Resolved to remain faithful to God and obedient to His precepts.  Trusting God to be faithful in His promise to rescue His people who are obedient to Him.  In spite of many temptations, many threats and continuous obsticles thrown in his path, and in the path of his companios, their resolve to remain faithful paid off.
Location: The events of this book took place in the city of Babylon in the land of the Chaldeans.
History When the people of Israel were taken to Babylon, the king had several young men chosen for the purpose of being trained in the ways of the Chaldeans.  These men were young, strong, good looking and intelligent.  They were treated different from the other captives and specificall trained to be in service to the king.  Daniel became the leader of these chosen men and also became a most trusted servant of several kings who served over Babylon and then Persia when they conquored the Babylonians.  Daniel's time as a prophet covers the entire 70 years of the captivity.
