Life Application - Esther

1.      When has pride been an issue in your life?  How did it affect you?  What did you learn from that experience?

2.      Even though ‘God’ is never even mentioned in the book of Esther, do you see Him at work here?  How?

3.      When have you had spiritual dryness in your life and you still saw God work in situations to lift you out of it?

4.      It is obvious that God finds ways to use ill prepared, ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish His will.  How do you think God wants to use you for His purpose?

5.      Esther makes the claim that she decide between playing it safe or serving God and possibly facing death.  When, if ever, is it okay for Christians demonstrate civil disobedience?  Have you ever demonstrated civil disobedience?  What happened?

6.      Do you think apathy is a problem in the church today?  In what ways do you struggle with apathy in your own life?

7.      Esther counted the cost and chose to serve God.  What kind of cost do we face in choosing to serve God?

8.      Haman demonstrated a ‘malicious’ attitude towards the Jews.  Have you seen people in the church who have a ‘malicious’ attitude towards others in the church?  How can this affect the mission of the church?

9.      Do you think that maybe God caused Xerxes’ restlessness in the night to get his attention?  When have you ever experienced restlessness in the night and you found that God was attempting to get your attention?
